Located in Asian plaza close by/ next to lion grocery market and ten rèn milk tea. This is the 2nd location (1st one is in San Jose ). Oh keep in mind they close in between lunch and dinner hours for break. I come here only for these two dish specialities below. I do not go here for other items that i can get elsewhere (like other common viet dishes but I do see other patrons eating the bun thit nướng (rice noodle grilled pork dish ) Get these ! - Hu Tieu Nam Vang SAC DEC - I like it "dry" noodles so broth is in a separate bowl. If you get the soup version then the noodles are in the broth together and you don't get the yummy sauce. I'd remember to get it dry style. You get to better taste the sauce of ground pork in tomato sauce. My friend said it's like a Vietnamese spaghetti lol. They add in a crispy large chip-like shrimp tempura. They USED to give snow crab claws but I guess they took it out due to inflation? This comes with large tiger prawns and lean pork slices. I'd pick the glass noodle vermicelli to go with it but they allow you to pick different noodles and textures. You can pick a small or large size. It also comes with bean sprouts, some greens, and lemon to add on to your liking. - Banh Khot - bite sized shrimp cups (or mini cup cakes) cooked in a cast iron pan (batter of rice flour, corn starch, water coconut milk ) and generally topped with green onion, shrimp. Add in fish sauce and lettuce wrap to your liking. This is a good shareable appetizer (6) pieces. They have tables (small and large parties) and booths. If you pay in cash it's cheaper by 10%
I went to Vung Tau II for the first time with a few coworkers and friends. The food was excellent, and I also thought that we received great customer service by the owner of the restaurant, who also was our server. I'm a huge fan of Vietnamese food, but I often feel like Vietnamese restaurants are very similar. I had the pleasure of trying new things at Vung Tau II, including a dish that only Vung Tau II makes. I tried the "shrimp cupcakes" appetizer, which was unique. The cup part of the cupcake was made by deep-fried rice, so it was nicely crunchy. Inside the cupcake was a cooked shrimp. Topping the cupcake off with the house fish sauce was the icing on the cake. No pun intended. For my entrée I got Banh Dap Tom Bo AKA #96. It consisted of onion beef and prawns that you wrap in a flat rice sheet with rice crispies. The flat rice sheets are cut up into squares, so I assembled everything together like eating a taco. I've never had anything like this, and apparently you can only find this in Vung Tau II. The dish comes with a side of lettuce, mint, sprouts, etc., so load up with all the fresh ingredients and go to down with the fish sauce.
I tried multiple places and this one is still my favorite for Hu Tieu Ba Nam (dry) and Banh Khot! Hu Tieu Ba Nam (Rice noodles, Dry) - Tomato meat sauce is chef kisses. They are generous with the toppings. Soup that comes with it is also very tasty. The meal is really comforting. Banh Khot - It is freshly made. Nice crispiness on the outside. I love being able to taste the coconut. The woman that helped me with my order was very nice and informative!
SO GOOD. I came here mainly for the banh knot not expecting much but left feeling so so satisfied and excited to come back to try more dishes! The restaurant interior isnt the most beautiful- just a standard asian place with plain tables and chairs. Pretty clean and well kept, no sticky tables which is always a plus! I came here for lunch at 12:30 on a Tuesday and there were plenty of open tables. The menu was a bit different than what I was used to...normally i get my viet food fix at a pho restaurant and I didnt see pho at all on this menu! I asked for recs and the waitress was super nice and gave me a few dishes to try. I ended up going for the banh knot (shrimp cupcakes) and a noodle soup with shrimp, pork and shrimp cracker. The banh knot was served with lettuce and mint leaves on the side. I was confused at first what to do with this but the lady explained to me that you are supposed to make little lettuce wraps with these shrimp things (this made me lol because now i get how people must feel when they come to a korean restaurant and are handed a meat dish with random things on the side with no instructions on how to eat it haha). Okay so first of all, the lettuce was SUPER fresh and crunchy. It feels silly to rave about good lettuce but it was so tasty with the shrimp cupcakes! the sweet spicy savory sauce that came with it was the perfect condiment to this dish. Highly recommend. The noodle dish i ordered had this incredible sweet seafoody broth. the shrimp were pump and the noodle portion was generous. The only critique i have of this is that the broth could have been a tad warmer but overall very very good! All the other dishes on the menu also sounded so good. the table next to me had some dry noodle bowl dish and that looked and smelled incredible. I cant wait to come back to try other dishes here!
This is by far our favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the Bay Area! My family and I have been going here for years! We've tried almost everything on the menu and EVERYTHING is consistently DELICIOUS! Our favs are the Cha Gio and Banh Dat! Their tamarind shrimp is also crazy good! The food is always super fresh, and service is always fast and friendly! The owner is so nice and Marcos is absolutely sweet and helpful! I also love how relaxing it is to dine here; the restaurant is clean, tables are spacious and spread a part, noise level is low... so different than most of the other Vietnamese restaurants in the South Bay. And they are always so welcoming and happy to see us! Definitely give this spot a try if you're one of the few who haven't yet!
